Good Morning Britain star Iain Dale is in intensive care, having been rushed to hospital late last night.

The former LBC presenter, 62, was forced to miss his programme yesterday evening, later revealing he had been admitted into A&E where he was waiting for three hours.

He wrote: ‘Three and a half hours in A&E and it looks like a gall bladder issue. They’re running tests. Might have to come back tomorrow.’

Hours later, the broadcaster took to X with an update, writing: ‘Firstly, thanks for all the good wishes.

‘I went to A&E last night at 9pm with acute pain on the right hand side of my chest.

‘I am now in intensive care awaiting an operation to remove my gall bladder.

‘Not ideal. In fact, it’s a nightmare. NHS care at Tunbridge Wells hospital is so far outstanding.’

On Sunday, Dale shared he felt ‘totally listless’, apologising to his followers for a lack of interaction online after suffering from ‘a rather nasty bout of food poisoning’.

Dale, who is due to be hosting an Edinburgh Fringe Show from Saturday, was hoping to return ‘from [his] sick bed’ to record a Global Player podcast with Joanna Cherry, For The Many.

Earlier this year, Dale quit his LBC radio show to stand as a Conservative MP for Tunbridge Wells ahead of the General Election.

He was forced to saw farewell to listeners as broadcasting rules forbid General Election candidates from presenting radio shows.

‘Even if you don’t share my politics, I hope, at least, that is something you can respect,’ he told listeners.

Dale later discussed the announcement on his For The Many Podcast and admitted that ‘a lot of people’ thought he was ‘stark raving mad’ for ‘giving up the best job I’ve ever had.’

‘The reason I’m doing it is because it is an itch I need to scratch, even at the ripe old age of 61.

‘I just thought, whatever the result of this election, and we all know what the polls say, I think I could play a bit of a role in not just helping the Conservative Party through some fairly traumatic and difficult times, but actually rebuilding it.

‘Sensible people, which I like to think I am one, need to come to the aid of the party in times of difficulty.’

Liberal Democrat politician Mike Martin won the Tunbridge Wells seat, taking over from Tory politician Greg Clark.

Dale was hospitalised in May last year with a ‘badly’ broken hip after an accident on the London underground.

He underwent hip replacement surgery after tripping at the top of an escalator, and kept his followers updated with his recovery.
