Netflix viewers are bracing themselves for ‘the drama’ as famous real-life influencers battle it out on a new social survival show.

The Influencer pits famous 77 South Korean social media stars, including beauty YouTuber Risabae and actor Jang Keun-suk, against one another to determine who wields the greatest power over audiences.

Premiering on Netflix today, the reality show has already drawn comparisons to Charlie Brooker’s dystopian series Black Mirror for its ‘crazy’ premise – and challenges which include surviving dislikes.

On YouTube, @victorguevara9437 shared: ‘Now this is weird, this is a real Black Mirror show.’

@ButMaybeNotAlways commented: ‘I like that SKorea is cashing out on all the global attention it’s getting. Their reality shows are getting crazy, I love to see it.’

@Fazymona added: ‘Ok I’m here for it. THE DRAMA.’

Echoing their sentiment @sandraphobic squealed: ‘OH IM SEATEDD i only know abt 2 ppl shown so I’m excited!!!’

Netflix fans likely believe The Influencer is reminiscent of 2016 episode Black Mirror episode, Nosedive, a dark, fictionalised tale about measuring social capital.

In it, the characters rate each other up to five stars, which can impact their socioeconomic status. Bryce Dallas Howard plays a young woman obsessed with her ratings – and then finds a way to cheat the system.

Throughout the seven-part series, the social media stars will be set challenges based on ‘presence, impact and buzz’ to prove their ‘influence’ until just one remains.

Also competing on The Influencer are travel YouTuber PaniBottle, fitness YouTuber Shim Euddeum, and TikTokers Sia_jiwoo and Kejimin.

Speaking about the show, the production team told Netflix: ‘It’s crucial for an influencer to draw attention. The focus on each cast member’s influence is what sets The Influencer apart from other survival reality shows.

‘It’ll be fascinating to see how they strategise to win.’
