GTA 6 – you’ll have to wait till autumn 2025 (Rockstar Games)

Rumours of a delay for GTA 6 are not true, as Rockstar Games owner Take-Two assure fans that the game will be out next year.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is set to be the biggest video game release of all-time but it’s already clear that very little information is going to be released about it before its launch.

So far, we’ve had one trailer and while there’s a good chance another will drop this year there’s been no promise of that, just as there’s been no indication of when exactly the game itself will be released.

It is supposed to be 2025 but there have been rumours of it slipping into 2026, with even Take-Two themselves seeming to hint at a delay, but they’ve now stated that the game is firmly on course for launch next autumn.

As usual, Take-Two tried to say as little as possible about GTA 6, in its latest financial results, but the game’s release date is listed as ‘Fall of Calendar 2025’.

That means in the autumn and during the actual calendar year, not the financial year. Or, in plain English, it’ll be out sometime between September and November 2025.

That’s a way off, at the moment, so it doesn’t mean a delay couldn’t still happen, but at the moment Take-Two isn’t expecting one.

Nothing more was said about the game and when he was asked by analysts, whether the exact release date would be announced in the next three months, CEO Strauss Zelnick told Variety, ‘I guess we’ll see.’

The obvious guess though, is that there will be a second trailer before the end of the year and that it will reveal the release date.

Although Take-Two didn’t want to say any more about GTA 6, they were happy to show off how much of a money maker GTA 5 continues to be.

The game has now sold over 200 million copies, across all formats, and was the most downloaded PlayStation 5 game in June and the second-best selling game in Europe overall.

That’s crazy given it’ll be celebrating its ninth birthday next month, with CEO Strauss Zelnick admitting it had exceeded expectations last quarter.

Red Dead Redemption 2 also sold another three million copies during the same three month period, for a lifetime total of over 65 million.
