The latest episode of The Supervet was thrown into chaos when star Noel Fitzpatrick suffered a grisly injury while in the middle of an emergency operation on an animal.

In an intense new instalment of the Channel 4 show, the TV vet, 56, and his team got to work helping a number of patients.

One of those was an outdoor cat called Oz, whose owners Cassie and Ashley admitted he had a keen a sense of adventure and they would regularly find him climbing trees.

However, they grew concerned when they noticed him limping and so decided to pay a trip to the Supervet team to find out what was wrong.

Noel was luckily on hand to help the feline and the scenes turned dramatic when Oz was whisked away for surgery in an attempt to save his leg.

But, during the high stakes procedure, the TV vet himself suffered a nasty injury that threw him off his work.

Noel dislocated his thumb in the middle of the operation, leading him to pace up and down the theatre and mutter under his breath in pain.

'I've just dislocated my thumb,' he exclaimed, before dramatically stepping away from the table.

'Aw, looks like you're in pain,' remarked a concerned colleague who was working on the cat.

Conscious of time and his patient, the star had to forcefully fix his thumb back into place himself, admitting that this is not the first time the injury has happened to him.

Despite the on-screen chaos, Noel's commitment paid off and the surgery went well. Oz's owners confirmed he is back to his normal self following the tense operation.

Shocked viewers took to X to write: 'Why am I watching the #Supervet? Much too stressful' and ' Why hasn't Noel been knighted yet, what with all his services to animals... #thesupervet.'

Another added: 'Noel is an absolute genius !! Watching #thesupervet from the start as some episodes I missed. Wish could have helped my bear who has now passed away. I used to work in a vets and I don’t think I’ve seen a better vet than Noel even though all vets are amazing.'

For the past 20 years, Noel has run a veterinary surgery in Surrey called Fitzpatrick Referrals.

He treats hundreds of animals a year and has a team of more than 170 people on hand to help him.

Speaking about his love for animals in December 2023, Noel gushed: 'Animals give us far more in love than we can ever give them in terms of guardianship.

'Explaining the unconditional bond between animal and human is nigh-on impossible to anyone who hasn't experienced it.

'There's a particular type of this love that only a creature, rather than a human, can share with us.'
