Bobby Lashley has given an update on his status amid speculation about his future (Picture: WWE)

WWE superstar Bobby Lashley is currently recovering from surgery after suffering a ‘freak’ injury in the ring.

The All Mighty, whose WWE future is unclear following reports his contract was set to expire over the weekend, has given an update on his current status after getting hurt during a live event in France at the beginning of May.

While Lashley is yet to publicly address his contract situation, he did confirm he has been out of action, but he’s making amazing progress.

‘I had surgery. A little boo boo, happened in France during a match. Just a freak accident. They told me I wasn’t supposed to be back for six months. Six weeks, I have the brace off, working out,’ he told The Laboratory podcast

‘My physical therapist was like, “You’re not supposed to be able to do that.” “I’m different.” I’m working out and lifting.

‘I don’t think I’m two months out of surgery now and I’m hitting it pretty hard. I think I’ll be ready and cleared in less than a month. At that time, we’ll see what happens.’

Up Next

Last week, it was reported that most people in WWE have been ‘under the impression’ Lashley is leaving, while Fightful Select noted ‘were no creative plans for him in the company moving forward’.

It was believed he was due to leave over the weekend, but there have been no official updates on his immediate future besides the new interview.

The report also noted that his former Hurt Business manager MVP – who recently made a surprise appearance at Josh Barnett’s Bloodsport – has left WWE after his own contract expired.

While Lashley’s wrestling future is uncertain, he has now teased stepping into a boxing ring, and he confirmed that is already an opponent lined up.

He added: ‘I love to be able to push myself to do things that are ridiculous. I set goals for myself every day. What can I do? How far can I push myself? How much can I do?

‘I want to run a marathon. I’m going to try to do that pretty soon. I’ll do jiu-jitsu, I’m going to try and win a world championship in jiu-jitsu.

‘I’m going to do a boxing match. We’ve already talked about this boxing match. I might have an opportunity to do it. I’m boxing somebody in Vegas. There is an opponent.’

As a member of the US Army, Lashley excelled as an amateur wrestler, and went onto join WWE in 2005, initially starting in Ohio Valley Wrestling before joining SmackDown.

He was released in 2008 and spent time on the independent scene and with TNA Wrestling (then known as IMPACT) and returned to WWE a decade later.

One of his most famous matches came in 2007 at WrestleMania 23, when he represented Donald Trump in the Battle of the Billionaires against Umaga, who was wrestling for Vince McMahon, and won.

And while Lashley and MVP could be AEW-bound if talks end up happening with Tony Khan’s company, it’s believed Lucha Brothers are poised to head in the other direction.

According to Fightful, Penta El Zero Miedo and Rey Fénix are said to have rejected a contract offer from AEW, with the former’s dealing expiring first, followed by Fenix ‘around September’.

Meanwhile, the outlet added that sources ‘believe that the Lucha Bros want to be a package deal and don’t want to go to NXT’, and it’s even claimed there is a preliminary offer already on the table.
