Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek's network of contributors
Adria Biles, Simone Biles' younger sister, recently posted a sweet tribute to the gymnastics icon on her Instagram. In the caption for the childhood photo of the two little girls, Adria wrote, "the little girl in me would look for you in every single room she walks into. you have made me into the person i am today and i will forever look up to you. i love you sister 🤍"
Based on the comments on the post, it appears that fans had an intense emotional reaction to the post. "as someone with a sister I am sobbing at this caption. There's nothing like it 🤍🥹" wrote one, while another asked plaintively, "Who is crying at this image?" with a barrage of emojis, including a goat in honor of Simone's "Greatest Of All Time" moniker. Here are some other throwbacks to the days before Biles, 27, became the G.O.A.T.
According to an interview she gave to achievement.org, Biles first became interested in gymnastics during a field trip at the young age of six. Apparently she had the support of a close relationship with her sister, who also shared this photo of the two in honor of Simone's birthday. NBC Sports shared a rare look at her childhood routine on their YouTube channel.
Biles debuted on the national stage at the national Senior Gymnastics Championships in Texas in 2013.
She won her first gold medal that same year in Belgium.
By 2016, she got her first taste of Olympic gold in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
As her international profile grew, Biles took a break from the balance beam to appear on Dancing With The Stars.
After withdrawing from the 2020 Olympics for her health, Biles made her triumphant return at the 2024 Olympics in Paris, where she won 3 gold medals and one silver.
Karen Bass, the mayor of Los Angeles, presented Biles with an Olympic flag during the closing ceremonious.
