Guy Ritchie’s hit Netflix show The Gentlemen has been renewed for a second season.

The show, which was a spin-off of sorts from the original 2019 film, told the story of Eddie Horniman (Theo James), the second son of an aristocrat, who ends up inheriting the family manor and title when his father dies… along with the cannabis-growing operation his dad was keeping a secret underneath their estate.

With massive debts to clear and mafia gangs circling, Eddie has to team up with drug kingpin Susie Glass (Kaya Scodelario) to keep the estate – and the business – safe and his family alive. Over several episodes, that includes run-ins with Nazis, gangs from all corners of the globe and rival drug dealers out to get a cut of the Glass’s business.

So far, not much information has been released about the upcoming new season, except that it’ll be eight episodes long and see the return of Ritchie as director, executive producer and writer, alongside Matthew Read.

Key members of the cast, including James, Scodelario and Daniel Ings – who plays Freddy Horniman, Eddie’s older brother – will also be returning.

The show received positive reviews upon its release, with the Standard’s review calling it “peak Guy Ritchie”.

It ended on a very bloody note, after Susie’s father Bobby (played by Ray Winstone), said he wanted to sell the drug business to one of his rivals. In an effort to subvert his orders, Eddie and Susie used the sale as a means of eliminating their enemies, getting them to kill each other (or sending them to jail) and leaving nobody left to buy it.

“It’s the cleaning of the fish barrel. It shows that Eddie is more menacing than he lets on or pretends to think he is,” James told Netflix’s online website Tudum.

“I think he lies to himself that he doesn’t have bloodlust, but in fact, he is more dangerous than anyone around him and more deadly.”

The Gentlemen is streaming now on Netflix.
