A reality series hosted by Rylan Clark has been cancelled after a single season.

Dubbed ‘wilder than Geordie Shore’, the Amazon Prime Video series Hot Mess Summer hit screens earlier this year.

The social experiment show was hosted by 35-year-old Rylan and challenged eight Brits, who thought they were heading to Zante in Greece for a summer of fun, to run one of the island’s busiest bars.

The group were challenged with taking on tasks like cleaning toilets and mixing cocktails but had to also work together and resist temptation to share a cash prize of up to £60,000.

However a few months after the show premiered, it’s already been axed.

‘Unfortunately, with Rylan’s jam-packed schedule and Prime Video’s upcoming slate, there aren’t plans for another series as it currently stands,’ a source told Metro.co.uk.

The publication has reported that there were hopes the show could ‘become a summer staple and rival hits such as Love Island and Ex On The Beach’ but TV bosses had ‘struggled to make time to commit to another incarnation of the show’.

When the show premiered, some viewers weighed in on what they thought, with Spencer saying he ‘loved the show’, which he also labelled ‘proper rubbish TV’.

Another fan Hayley said it was ‘rather good trashy reality’ while Heidi said she was ‘obsessed’.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk ahead of the show’s launch, Rylan said it ‘was like old telly and the shows I loved growing up’.

‘Now people are a little bit frightened to take risks – not necessarily the channels but maybe production, and contestants. I don’t want to see people wrapped in cotton wool,’ he shared.

Rylan, who shot to fame on The X Factor in 2012 and has since appeared on Celebrity Big Brother, Strictly Come Dancing: It Takes and This Morning, also spoke about deciding to sign up for the series.

‘Hot Mess Summer is something I wouldn’t have done four or five years ago, just because I wouldn’t really want to be away from home for a month but now, I’m Mr Single I can do what I want,’ he explained.

‘I’m finally in control of my life. I was Mr Safe, but now I’m Mr Risky.’

Despite this cancellation, Rylan is also fronting another reality series, Dating Naked UK, which launches on Paramount Plus this week.

The show sees singles strip off completely while trying to find their soulmate, with viewers to also get an eye-full with no pixelation.

Speaking to The Sun, Rylan said he felt envious of the contestants.

‘The craziest thing is all I wanted to do was be naked throughout it. I felt left out,’ he said.

Metro.co.uk has contacted Amazon Prime Video and representatives for Rylan Clark for comment.
