The bail conditions of disgraced BBC newsreader Huw Edwards have been revealed – and reportedly include a ban from unsupervised contact with children.

Edwards, 62, faces sentencing in September after pleading guilty to three charges of making indecent images of children.

The newsreader has been granted provisional bail and warned that ‘all options’ are on the table for his sentencing on September 16 – including an immediate jail term.

Edwards plead guilty to the making of indecent images of children between December 2020 and April 2021.

As part of his bail conditions, Edwards is also said to be forbidden from contacting Alex Williams from south Wales, 25. It was when Williams’ phone was seized by police that their investigation began – discovering that he had sent the newsreader 377 sexual images, including 41 indecent images of children.

Edwards was arrested in November last year.

According to court records as seen by Sky News, one of the conditions of Edwards’ bail is that he is not allowed unsupervised contact with anyone under the age of 18.

Any contact he does have with children must be under the direct supervision of an adult who knows about his offences.

Edwards is forbidden from the use of any devices which don’t record internet history – and any internet-compatible devices are to be made available for police inspection upon request.

This reportedly also includes a ban on any online communication apps, forbidding him from talking to anyone under the age of 16.

Further conditions forbid him from making contact with Williams – who was convicted of seven offences relating to indecent images and pictures of children, and sentenced to a 12-month suspended prison sentence in March.

Of the messages sent between Edwards and Williams, seven of these were of the most serious kind – category A, while a further 12 are category B, and 22 category C.

Meanwhile, further allegations have emerged this week, with one man accusing the veteran anchor of sexually assaulting him in a nightclub toilet.

The 27-year-old alleged in an interview with MailOnline that he assaulted him in 2022 after sharing messages on Instagram.

The man claims: ‘Huw followed me into the toilets of the Ivy Club where we were eating and while I was standing at the urinals, he grabbed my penis and attempted to masturbate me.

‘I backed away, I was very shocked because this was not in a cubicle, it was in the open urinals area.

He continued: ‘One of the most shocking things was how brazenly aggressive he was.’

Edwards was the BBC’s highest-paid presenter, earning £475,000 and £479,999 from 2023 to 2024. The amount he earned from November last year – the time he was arrested – is around £200,000.

The broadcaster is now seeking the return of salary paid since his arrest, with a statement from the BBC saying: ‘Today the board has authorised the Executive to seek the return of salary paid to Mr Edwards from the time he was arrested in November last year.

‘Mr Edwards has pleaded guilty to an appalling crime. Had he been up front when asked by the BBC about his arrest, we would never have continued to pay him public money.

‘He has clearly undermined trust in the BBC and brought us into disrepute.’
