Indiana Jones And The Great Circle – coming to PS5? (Bethesda)

MachineGames’ new Indiana Jones game is supposedly only a timed Xbox exclusive, which may be true of other Bethesda games too.

Xbox Series X/S console exclusive Indiana Jones And The Great Circle looks fantastic, and is being made by Wolfenstein developer MachineGames, but it’s hard to see it being as big a hit as it seems to deserve, given the franchise it’s based on and the fact that it’s not on PlayStation 5.

The older Indiana Jones movies are great but the last two weren’t and that’s probably left many younger gamers feeling apathetic about the series.

Microsoft’s general policy on exclusivity remains unclear but one insider clams that The Great Circle will be released on PlayStation 5 in the first of next year, leaving the game as an Xbox console exclusive only for this Christmas.

The release date for the game hasn’t been announced yet, but it’s expected to be revealed at the Gamescom Opening Night Live event on Tuesday night.

We and other sites have already been shown exclusive footage of the game, that we’ll be able to talk about later today, but whether there’ll be any announcement about coming to PlayStation 5 is unclear.

The generally reliable Nate the Hate broke the initial rumour but does not seem to know anything about a specific date. Meanwhile, The Verge has already suggested that Bethesda is considering if and when to bring both Starfield and The Great Circle to PlayStation 5.

Starfield not already being on PlayStation 5 is something of a surprise and it makes it harder to guess at Microsoft’s general policy towards multiformat releases.

It seems though that a short period of exclusivity, of around six months, may become the standard, although as has been clear from the start Microsoft keeps seeming to change its mind on the issue.

It’s also unclear whether Bethesda has any say in the matter, especially as the original idea to make their games Xbox console exclusives was apparently forced on them by Phil Spencer.

A separate rumour has already suggested that a major Xbox exclusive will be announced as coming to PlayStation 5 during Gamescom Open Night Live, although initial reports suggested it was Forza Horizon 5.

Later sources claimed it was Microsoft Flight Simulator and others that it is… Indiana Jones And The Great Circle. At the same time, some have claimed that there will be no announcement at all.

Again, this seems indicative of constantly changing plans at Microsoft, and varying opinions amongst its executives as to the best way to proceed.

Maybe Forza Horizon 5 will be tonight’s annoucement? (Xbox Game Studios)
