Tom Jones has slammed Simon Cowell for making talent television shows too harsh.

The Voice coach, 84, took a swipe at the Britain's Got Talent judge's approach to contestants and told MailOnline: 'Well those kinds of talent shows take it too far. Simon Cowell has done that.

'You know, by saying, 'Why are you on this show? What makes you think you can sing? Who told you you can sing'. I mean… Jesus.

'The difference between The Voice and other talent shows is, they can sing. They've got rid of those who can't sing before the first auditions.'

The Sex Bomb singer and Welsh legend will return to his position as a coach on The Voice UK for his thirteenth year as the longest-running panellist with the US Black Eyed Peas rapper, Will.i.am.

MailOnline can reveal the 84-year-old's technique to remain energetic while touring and on television appearances is to sleep whenever he can, eat two meals a day and tape up his mouth at night to protect his vocal cords from the air conditioning.

This year the long-running judges are joined by McFly's Tom Fletcher and Danny Jones and the nineties pop icon, LeAnne Rimes after Ollie Murs was axed from the show last year.

When asked if they had found the next Taylor Swift, Jones said: 'No. Who could beat Taylor Swift? Nobody's like her, she's sensational.'

As a new judge, Ms Rimes told MailOnline that the biggest challenge on the show was getting new singers to have stage presence, as it's been completely lost in the digital world.

The How Can I Live singer, 41, said: It's really strange because the artists that come on our show sit in their rooms and sing. They don't have stage experience.

'So what's happening these days is that you get an artist with a great voice but they have no idea what they're doing when they step on stage.

'It's not like we get a lot of time with them and now it's filled with teaching them stage presence, what to do with your voice and how to perform and how your body language conveys emotion coming through your voice. I've never had to break down the steps to people and the components like this before to people.'

It comes as judge of six years, Olly Murs, was unexpectedly axed from the show last year.

The Dear Darling singer, 40, said his team were told by ITV bosses the. show was 'looking at new people' for the coaching role before he was kicked off the show.

Murs expressed his disappointment with ITV and said: 'I got the call to say I won't be back on the show, and it's a bit of a shock, to be honest. I didn't expect that.

'They'll find someone great, I'm sure. But am I going to miss it? Yeah. Did I want to leave? No. Will I still watch the show? Of course, but it'll be sore thinking that could have been me.'

Meanwhile, Anne-Marie was also dropped from the series before the upcoming 2024 show.
