The lead singer of 90s rock band The Charlatans has made a generous gesture to fans after their gig was cancelled.
Formed in Birmingham in 1988, the band consists of lead vocalist Tim Burgess, guitarist Mark Collins, bassist Martin Blunt and keyboardist Tony Rogers.
In the 36 years since forming, they’ve released 13 albums, all of which have charted in the top 40 of the UK Albums Chart, three of them being number ones.
Some of their best-known hits have included The Only One I Know and One to Another.
The band had been due to support New Order at an outdoor concert at Alexandra Head in Cardiff on Thursday, but it was cancelled due to ‘extreme weather’.
However soon after Tim, 57, apologised to fans and offered them a gift of sorts to make up for the disappointment.
‘From 6pm tonight there’ll be £500 behind the bar at @TinyRebelCdff – it’s open all day so you can head down there early. Liam has promised that the tunes will be amazing (plenty of Charlatans and New Order). A chance for those who have travelled to get together. Sorry again. Tim,’ he posted on X.
He then explained how the venue ‘serve food all day and the staff we spoke to are amazing’, adding details of the address and telling fans to keep proof of their tickets to claim free drinks.
The performer also told fans to ‘tweet me pics and updates’.
Many fans thanked Tim for his generosity.
‘That’s a lovely gesture, Tim,’ Sue commented.
‘This is a very generous thing to do Tim. Bravo, and cheers to anyone who makes it along,’ Dominic wrote.
‘And this just reiterates my belief that The Charlatans are one of the greatest bands ever,’ Stu added.
The bar then added an extra £500 to the tab for fans to enjoy, with many then replying to his original tweet sharing photos of their pints and a very busy bar.
Organisers The Bay Series said cancelling gig was due to health and safety grounds surrounding weather conditions.
They said in a statement: ‘Important information about tonight’s event. Unfortunately, due to extreme weather including severe winds, tonight’s New Order show has been cancelled on health and safety grounds.’
They went onto apologise and said refunds would be processed automatically.
