Jenna Ortega has responded to the rumours that she was dating Johnny Depp, who is 40 years her senior.
Jenna, 21, is set to star in the sequel to the 1988 classic Beetlejuice which will see Michael Keaton reprise his role as the eponymous character.
While promoting the film, the star has been interviewed by several outlets and was recently asked about the ‘craziest rumour’ she’s heard about herself.
Using the moment to clear up a romantic rumour, the actress revealed that she was baffled to hear that she was dating Pirates of the Caribbean actor Johnny Depp, and added that she’d never met him.
‘Probably that I was in a serious relationship with Johnny Depp, and I wanted everybody to leave us alone.’
‘It’s so insane to me. Like, I never spoke on that. I never said anything like that. Articles really do just make up their own quotes, but I thought that that was pretty hilarious,’ she said during her puppy interview with Buzzfeed.
Jenna added that even one of her fellow cast members believed that she was dating the star.
‘I was on set with Richard E. Grant, and he came up to me and he just said, “Oh, so you and Johnny?” And I laughed because I… I don’t know that person.’
In the Buzzfeed interview, she did open up about her romantic interests as she revealed that her childhood crush was Barack Obama and also the entire cartoon cast of The Fox and the Hound.
The actor has been romantically linked to several fellow actors but has remained tight-lipped about her romances over the years.
Although Jenna laughed off the wild rumours, it has been reported that Johnny is enjoying a ‘casual’ romance with a Russian model who is 33 years his junior.
Jenna confirmed that in real life she is not dating a man who is decades older than her, but the actor did star across Martin Freeman, 52, in an erotic thriller that saw them play lovers.
Fans were rather uncomfortable after watching the 21-year-old and the 52-year-old in a sex scene with one another, with some labelling the film as ‘questionable’.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is set to be released in cinemas on September 6, 2024.
