Cate Blanchett put on a very chic display in a black and white pinstriped suit as she stepped out for the third day of the 81st Venice International Film Festival on Friday.

The actress, 55, who is promoting her Apple TV series, Disclaimer, looked in high spirits as she left her hotel to attend another day of star-studded events.

She exuded sophistication in the elegant ensemble, which featured a plunging neckline and belt to cinch in her waist.

Cate, who has walked this week's red carpet premieres in an array of glamorous outfits, teamed her daytime look with a pair of pointy black heels.

The Carol star accessorized with dainty earrings and large sunglasses, elevating her beauty with a natural makeup look.

Amal and George Clooney and Nicole Kidman have also been spotted out and about enjoying the sunshine in Venice on Friday.

Nicole, 57, is attending the Italian festival to promote her new erotic thriller film Babygirl where she stars alongside Harris Dickinson.

Meanwhile, George, 63 and his wife Amal, 46, touched down in the city today and are expected to attend the premiere of George's new film on Sunday, where he stars opposite Brad Pitt.

Cate's newest appearance comes just less than 24 hours after she attended the Disclaimer premiere on Thursday.

The actress covered her cleavage with her hands as she walked the red carpet in an extreme plunging jumpsuit with a low back after joking she would be arriving 'naked' to the premiere of her new project.

When asked what she planned to wear before the event, Cate had said: 'Nothing. I'm going naked.'

She oozed confidence as she posed up a storm in the daring black, velvet ensemble, but ensured she avoided a wardrobe malfunction by covering her modesty with her hands.

On Wednesday, she stunned in Armani Prive on the festival's opening night, worn with a long row of diamonds and pearls around her shoulders, an echo of what she wore to the Baftas this spring.

Her stylist, Elizabeth Stewart, wrote on Instagram that the gems had been 'repurposed' for Cate by the Louis Vuitton atelier.

The star was joined at the event by chief executive officer of Apple, Tim Cooke, who is also expected to join Amal and George Clooney, and Brad Pitt on the red carpet on Sunday for George's new film Wolfs.

The actor welcomed Tim to his $100 million 18th century Lake Como villa on Wednesday before heading out on a boat for dinner at the five-star hotel Villa Passalacqua.

Cate was on slightly combative form in her press conference, brushing off enquiries which she felt were nonsense.

When asked how she had approached her role as a documentary-maker with a secret 'as a woman' she said: 'Well, I always approach every role as a woman because I am one. I don't really think about that.'

In the TV series, her character finds an accusation in a novel written by a lonely old man that she is responsible for the death by drowning of a young man with whom she had an affair many years previously.

The series deals with shaming, and families, and secrets and lies, and the delight of the mob in pointing the finger.

Catherine Ravenscroft has a doting husband, played by Sacha Baron Cohen, and a son, played by Kodi Smit-McPhee, who seems to hate her.

Cate said that she had tried to harness the 'power of judgement' in her portrayal of the journalist, noting: 'Almost as soon as you meet her and you know nothing about her you hear what other people say about her.

'It was a challenge not to reveal too much. It was almost like she was a glass of water into which other characters and the audience projected.

'The people who transposed their judgement onto the character knew nothing about her at all.

'She is a woman who has a very fractured relationship with her son and consequently her husband doesn't understand her view.

'In families people can live their lives quite independently. You often think you understand your family members but do not.

'When you meet Catherine she has an impeccable reputation for doing the right thing and being on the right side of things but … there are secrets and lies which we tell ourselves.'
