One of the stars of ITV’s This Morning has revealed that if one thing happens, she has absolutely no qualms about quitting the series.

In February, it was finally confirmed who would be taking over as the main presenters of the broadcaster’s flagship show after the departures of its previous hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield.

Taking over the reins would be Ben Shephard – who was coming over from Good Morning Britain – and UK TV legend Cat Deeley – who’s fronted So You Think You Can Dance? in the US for the past 18 years.

In a new interview, Cat opened up about what it’s been like to join This Morning, as well as the scrutiny she’s been under in the high-profile role.

While the ITV programme has had a fall in its viewing figures in recent months, the 47-year-old told The Times ‘I haven’t really thought about it’ when asked about the ratings.

Having joined This Morning in March, Cat has found herself at the centre of various headlines, including during an awkward interview with singer Chaka Khan, and when she joked that she was ‘having a seizure’ while dancing on camera, comments that she apologised for after criticism from viewers and charity the Epilepsy Society.

Speaking of the seizure quip, Cat said: ‘I was obviously mocking myself and my dancing. However, if people did take it the wrong way I’m incredibly sorry.’

When asked whether the scrutiny that she’s experienced has shocked her, she replied: ‘Yes! Everyone keeps checking in with me, “Are you OK? Are you handling this all right?”’

She then continued: ‘I don’t care. I do not care. If it gets too much for me I’m going to quit. I don’t need to do it. I could stop and be a mum for most of the year and then go and do the shows in America. There is no ulterior motive for me doing this.’

Cat added that in her view, the intense attention she’s been receiving is ‘a very British thing’.

She also shared in the interview that after she joined This Morning, Holly sent her some flowers, adding that she hopes to meet up with her ‘when the dust settles’.

At the upcoming National Television Awards, This Morning is nominated in the daytime category, along with Deal or No Deal, The Repair Shop, Loose Women and The Chase.

In the TV presenter category, the personalities up for the award are Alison Hammond, Ant and Dec, Claudia Winkleman, Bradley Walsh and Stacey Solomon.
