Slow Horses actor Jack Lowden is fast becoming one of Britain’s best young acting talents and is one-half of a Hollywood power couple with Saoirse Ronan.

The Scottish star, 34, is best known for playing Slough House spy River Cartwright in the gripping espionage drama that also features Gary Oldman among its cast.

Jack has had a busy year so far, with season 4 of Slow Horses debuting on Apple TV Plus to great acclaim – and a perfect Rotten Tomatoes score – and he also tied the knot to his long-term A-list girlfriend.

Who is Jack Lowden married to?

Jack is married to Irish actress Saoirse Ronan, 30, who had her breakthrough role playing Keira Knightley’s younger sister Briony in the 2007 film Atonement, which earned her a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress aged just 13.

She then went on to star in The Lovely Bones, Hanna, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Brooklyn, Lady Bird and Little Women.

In July, it was reported the couple tied the knot in a ‘low-key’ secret ceremony in Jack’s native Scotland.

The Irish Independent has reported that ‘only a handful of the couple’s closest friends were present and all the guests were sworn to secrecy’.

The publication also said that the register of Scottish civil marriages records that Saoirse Una Ronan married Jack Andrew Lowden at the Edinburgh Central Registrar’s Office.

Engagement rumours began about a year ago when the couple didn’t deny he has proposed during a hiking holiday in Scotland last July.

The actor posted a photo from the summit of Ben Vrackie in Perthshire showing a hand, which appeared to be Ronan’s, wearing a diamond ring.

How long have they been together?

Jack and Saoirse met in 2018 on the set of film Mary Queen of Scots. Saoirse starred as Mary Stuartm while Jack played the monarch’s husband Lord Darnley.

The couple are thought to have been dating since then, however have largely kept their relationship out of the spotlight.

In 2019 Jack told ES Magazine he ‘wasn’t going to talk’ about their relationship and said he didn’t ‘like talking about that side of life’.

‘Most of the actors I know live pretty normal lives, it’s just every now and again they have to do something ridiculous or extraordinary. My life hasn’t changed. People seem more interested — I guess that’s changed, for sure,’ he added.

However, he did previously call Saoirse ‘remarkable’ and a ‘force of nature, on and off-screen’.

County Carlow raised Saoirse and Oxton raised Jack reportedly now share a £2.3 million home in Islington, north London, with their terrier, Fran.

In 2020 she was also reported to have purchased a two-bedroom waterfront cottage in Ballydehob, west Cork.

What other movies and TV shows has Jack Lowden been in?

Jack studied acting at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama and started his career in 2011 in the theatre.

After starring in stage productions including Black Watch and Chariots of Fire, he appeared in ITV drama Mrs Biggs.

The following year, Jack was cast in a British-French adaptation of the hit Scandi Noir The Bridge, The Tunnel.

In 2016, he starred alongside the likes of James Norton and Lily James in BBC’s War & Peace.

Jack’s other TV credits include Small Axe, The Gold, and The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.

On the big screen, Jack has appeared in films including Dunkirk, Fighting with My Family, alongside Florence Pugh, Capone and Rogue Trooper.
