Celebrity Gogglebox viewers were divided over Chris Packham’s TV commentary, with some loving his savage humour as others branded him a ‘mood vacuum.’
The self-aware Springwatch star, however, previously acknowledged his ‘ruthless criticism’ might not go down well with fans of the beloved Channel 4 programme.
On tonight’s episode, the 63-year-old complained Glastonbury had become ‘too pop’, claimed he hadn’t heard of Shania Twain’s banger Man I Feel Like A Woman, and laid into ITV reality show Love Island.
Some viewers on X were disgruntled by the BBC star’s epic takedowns, with @LoveBulldog lamenting: ‘Oh great it’s a Chris Packham episode #CelebrityGogglebox #moodvacuum.’
Echoing their sentiment, @Margare16040532 wrote: ‘What is the actual point of Chris & Megan on here-especially Chris? He brings nothing to the programme.’
@_ActionPhotos agreed Chris was a vibe-killer and added: ‘Bloomin heck Chris Packham is a fun vacuum on @C4Gogglebox . Why do they keep him on #CelebrityGogglebox? A fun programme he makes miserable.’
However, many other viewers endorsed Chris’s take on the week’s telly. @AcraftyPunum said: ‘Yep, Chris just summing up what I’d think about being at Glasto too!’
Loving Chris on Celebrity Gogglebox, @Sansmith192 declared: ‘I love #celebritygogglebox so much. Chris is so funny. I’d have leprosy to get out of that … I’m with you Chris.’
@Coggs29 added: ‘Chris Packham while being inflicted with Love Island. “Can you put some more cyanide in my drink please.” Same Chris. Same.’
On Glastonbury, Chris said: ‘In the old days, it was about indie bands, punk stuff, maverick music. Now it’s just pop.’
After Megan began boogying to Man I Feel LIke A Woman, she asked Chris if he knew the song and he curtly responded: ‘No.’
Megan goaded: ‘Yeah, you do.’
Looking very unimpressed, Chris replied: ‘No I don’t. I really don’t.’
Later, Megan tucked into some strawberries and announced they were grown in Britain and from Kent.
‘Yeah right,’ Chris said. ‘Are those British strawberries? What, you’ve got some fervent, nationalist strawberry thing? Only getting Reform strawberries, are you?

‘Is that what it is? Don’t want them strawberries from Spain coming over here, ruining our strawberries…them immigrant strawberries, coming in here.
‘Give me a break. They didn’t come from the UK. They came from somewhere they sucked every last bit of water out of the land and they pumped them into those tasteless capsules of stickiness.’
Chris, who appears on the show with his step-daughter Megan McCubbin, previously expressed concern over the way ‘he let rip at things.’
Speaking about appearing on the show, he said: ‘I was more worried about the fact that they film it in a way where there’s no one in the room, you’re there with just some cameras and I do let rip at things.
‘I do say, in the comfort of my own home, I’m ruthlessly critical of whatever we’re watching.’
He also explained that his stepdaughter was a ‘great fan’ of Gogglebox, and that he’d watched it ‘from time to time’.
Also on Celebrity Gogglebox tonight were stars includingRylan Clark and his mum Linda, Miquita Oliver and her mum Andi Oliver and Fearne Cotton and Gok Wan.
