Carol Vorderman has revealed she has ditched two of her ‘special friends’ as she shared a relationship update.

The former Countdown star, 63, first spoke about her set-up on This Morning two years ago to help remove the taboo around polyamory.

At the time, she said she was seeing five different men, among them an astronaut who contacts her from the space station.

Now, though, Carol said she is no longer romantically involved with two of her special friends, but shrugged off the break-ups, saying ‘life’s moved on.’

She told The Times: ‘Life’s moved on. It’s free-spirited. There’s no ownership but it works.

‘I haven’t had many relationships but I’ve had a couple of bad ones — they’re a gamble.

‘I love being single. I couldn’t think of anything worse than being with a full-time partner.

‘Most women, even happily married ones, would say if something happened to their partner they’d feel the same. They to me say, “Yay! Good for you!”

Discussing her ‘special friends’ previously on Instagram, Carol said: ‘There are different kinds of relationships and a less pressurised one is one which suits many of us. It’s just that society has said we can’t talk about it. Well, stuff that.’

Carol expanded on the subject while talking to Michelle Visage on the Rule Breakers podcast.

‘The language around a woman of my generation is that if you had more than one partner when you got married you were this, you were that,’ she said.

‘Everything was derogatory about a woman, that was the environment I was growing up in. It was like “she’s desperate”, everything was judgmental.’

She continued: ‘It’s a happy place. I hasten to add I’m not into one-night stands.’

Carol added to You magazine: ‘The goal of my life is to be happy, not to be in love. I just find people interesting and life interesting.’
