Dave Grohl, frontman for rock band Foo Fighters, has released a statement on Tuesday, September 10, admitting he has fathered a child outside his marriage to Jordyn Blum, with whom he shares three daughters.
"I've recently become the father of a new baby daughter, born outside of my marriage," he wrote on Instagram. "I plan to be a loving and supportive parent to her. I love my wife and my children, and I am doing everything I can to regain their trust and earn their forgiveness," he continued. "We're grateful for your consideration toward all the children involved, as we move forward together."
Fans were floored by this news — especially from a musician who had a reputation, according to one commenter, as "the nicest man in rock."
Another was skeptical about the good intentions expressed in the post. "Regain trust? For having no respect for your wife? Yeah move along," they wrote.
"Ugh lost a lot of respect for this man who I have always loved ❤️," shared a disappointed fan, while another simply said, "Aw, ffs, Dave... damn. Just damn."
A couple of Foo Fighters fans used the opportunity to intersperse the band's lyrics into their reactions.
"There goes my hero," multiple people lamented.
"Dave Grohl missed a trick not opening this statement with "I've got another confession to make," wrote another commenter, referencing the Foo Fighters song "Best of You."
Grohl, 55, has been married to Jordyn Blum since 2003. They share three daughters: Violet Maye, 18, Harper Willow, 15, and Ophelia Saint, 10.
His previous marriage to Jennifer Youngblood ended in 1997 due to Grohl's infidelity, as he admitted in an interview with The Guardian. In the same story, he referred to his wife Jordyn and Violet, their only child at the time, as "anchors that keep me from completely disappearing."
