Dancing with the Stars pro Peta Murgatroyd has shared more details of the multiple-car accident she got into near her home on Monday.

The dancer's husband, fellow DWTS star Maksim Chmerkovskiy, took to Instagram earlier this week to post footage of the aftermath of the incident, which took place as Murgatroyd was picking up 7-year-old son, Shai Aleksander, from school.

After showing his shaken wife on camera, Chmerkovskiy trained his lens on the street and talked viewers through the series of events, explaining that a vehicle had smashed into Murgatroyd's car, causing her to hit another vehicle in front of her.

In the clips, Chmerkovskiy confirmed that nobody involved in the accident was injured. "Peta's okay. Everybody's fine," he said, although Murgatroyd added that while she was generally OK, she was experiencing "some sort of whiplash."

During a Q&A livestream on their YouTube channel, The Maks and Peta Show, on Thursday, the couple went into further detail about the incident after a fan enquired.

"I can't believe you actually filmed that, like you went on Instagram," Murgatroyd told her husband as she laughed, prompting him to respond: "I couldn't believe that this happened. Are you kidding me?"

Getting into the details of what happened, on the day, Murgatroyd explained: "I went to pick up Shai from school, and I turned...well, veered into the turning lane to turn left onto one of the streets."

"She was just standing and somebody smashed into somebody behind her," chimed in.

"It all happened behind me," Murgatroyd continued. "And then I was the fourth car to get hit, and I flew forward and I hit the car in front of me."

"And when I got there, I did not expect this," Chmerkovskiy interjected. "I expected, like, a little boof and [that] Peta overreacted."

"I could feel the tears coming, because it was just a shock of like, flying forward, hitting the lady in front of me," Murgatroyd went on, adding that the motorist she hit "got all p***** off, and I'm like, 'Yo, wasn't me. Look at them behind.'"

In his series of videos earlier this week, Chmerkovskiy revealed that he was mulling a minivan for his wife as a replacement for her damaged vehicle.

"So, I'm out here picking up a rental, because baby girl is in the shop and gonna be there for a while, seems like," he told his social media followers. "But, I was thinking to surprise the missus with one of these bad boys."

Standing beside a minivan, he went on: "I mean, spacious, roomy car. The doors? They go sideways like Rolls Royce or something like that, you know what I mean? We can make it a thing."

Murgatroyd and Chmerkovskiy, who wed in 2017, revealed they'd become parents for a third time in July. As well as their newborn, named Milan, and their eldest child, Shai, the dancers are also parents to 1-year-old Rio John.
