Only Connect viewers have shared their concern after confusion over Victoria Coren-Mitchell’s headwear.

The presenter, 52, has often sparked debate over her interesting accessories, and the latest episode of the BBC Two competition was no different.

Opening the show, the mum-of-two completely avoided to mention her sequined red beret covering one half of her head, which she’d paired with a green floral dress.

She went on to introduce the two teams, the Third Agers and the Introverts, but viewers were left more distracted by her headwear.

It was compared to a dish scourer, a Fruit Pastille, and even a swarm of fire ants, though some viewers admitted they thought it was an injury,

‘Why does Victoria look like she’s got a massive head wound?’ @SpursRevival said.

‘Can’t get over whatever is on Victoria’s head!’ @toonpete85 added.

‘Just switched over and momentarily thought Victoria had taken a nasty blow to the head,’ @Rilthy said.

‘Still investigating what Victoria Coren is wearing on #OnlyConnect…’ @Bobby_Seagull said, with @rosethechemist commenting: ‘Swarm of fire ants.’

‘Why is Victoria Coren wearing a fruit pastille?’ @PaynieLF said, as @JanaElbie wrote: ‘Oh I thought more dish scourer thingy!’

‘Why does Victoria have a giant Liquorice All Sort on her head..,’ @Olas76 added.

This comes after viewers thought Victoria was ‘trolling’ them last year, this time wearing a very mother-of-the-bride-esque red hat.

The eye-catching accessory was in a bright pink colour, paired with a darker dress, and although it did liven up the studio, some viewers thought it was to wind up those who have previously complained about her outfits.

‘Surprised how many people are wondering why VCM was wearing a hat on #onlyconnect, when the answer – as always – was that it was purely to troll the people who only watch the show to complain about VCM wearing a hat,’ one viewer commented on X.

Others, however, were perplexed, with a viewer asking: ‘Ok so why was Victoria Coren Mitchell wearing the hat? I tried very hard to concentrate and see the in joke to explain it but missed it. Anybody? #onlyconnect.’

Victoria, who married Peep Show star David Mitchell in 2012, began hosting Only Connect in 2008, when it first aired.

She has also appeared on shows such as 8 Out of 10 Cats and Would I Lie To You, and is a professional poker player.
