Concord is a huge flop (Sony Interactive Entertainment)

Star Wars Outlaws has sold less than half that of Jedi: Survivor, as the European charts for August reveal a bad month for the PS5.

Concord has already gone down as one of the biggest disasters in PlayStation history, but now sales figures have shed further light on its financial failings.

The hero shooter, which was apparently considered the ‘future of PlayStation’ by Sony, was taken offline after only two weeks last month – with reports since suggesting the game will probably never return as developer Firewalk Studios faces potential layoffs.

While it was clear the game sold very poorly, you might be surprised to hear just how badly it did in the European charts for August.

How well did Concord sell on PS5 and PC?

According to figures from GSD, which tracks both digital and physical sales across most major publishers, Concord charted at number 347 in August.

As if that wasn’t bad enough, it was only the 13th best-selling new game for the month, selling even less than niche adventure Switch game Emio: The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club.

The big kicker is this chart doesn’t include digital sales for Nintendo titles, so Concord, across physical and digital, didn’t even surpass Emio: The Smiling Man on physical sales alone, which are usually much lower than digital.

Was Star Wars Outlaws a flop?

Elsewhere in the chart, it was a disappointing launch for Ubisoft’s Star Wars Outlaws. It was the second best-selling game of the month behind GTA 5, which is 11 years-old at this point. First week sales are less than half of what EA’s Star Wars: Jedi Survivor managed in the same window back in 2023.

According to GamesIndustry.biz, Star Wars Outlaws did manage to sell better than 2020’s Star Wars Squadrons – but that’s probably of little comfort considering that’s a much smaller game in terms of budget and scope.

During a financial update, Ubisoft recently said Star Wars Outlaws had a ‘softer than expected launch’. The game is, however, set to launch November 21 on Steam, so there’s a chance it might pick up, er, steam, as we approach Christmas.

The other big release for August was Black Myth: Wukong, but the game only reached number 68, because the game’s digital sales were not recorded.

As for the rest of the chart, Kingdom Come: Deliverance saw a big jump after it was reduced to less than £3 on Steam, while Borderlands 3 also climbed into the top 10 following the reveal of Borderlands 4 and probably to wash out any memory of the movie. You can check out the full top ten below.

In terms of overall game sales, 11.8 million console and PC games were sold in Europe in August, which is a rise of 7% over the same month last year.

PS5 console sales continue to fall

On the hardware front, 300,000 games consoles were sold, which is 42% less than August last year but 12% up over the previous month. Sony’s PlayStation 5 is still the highest-selling, but sales are down by more than 50% year-on-year, while the Nintendo Switch is in second with sales down 25% over August last year.
