Sabrina Carpenter has stunned fans as she joked about getting New York’s mayor indicted after a controversial music video

The Taste singer, 25, is currently on tour and performed in New York City on Sunday night.

While chatting to her fans on stage she broke her silence about the federal corruption probe faced by Mayor Eric Adams.

‘Should we talk about how I got the mayor indicted?’ the singer joked while chatting to the crowd at Madison Square Garden.

Fans loved this moment and cheered as the singer laughed, grabbed her mouth, and turned away from the crowd.

Her audience screamed as she claimed this bizarre link for the first time, which began last year when the singer released a controversial music video to her hit song Feather.

The final moments of the 2023 music video show the singer dancing in a tiny black tutu dress down the aisle of a church, as she attends the funeral for all of the men in the video who killed themselves – or got killed – trying to ger her attention.

The scene was filmed in Brooklyn’s Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church.

Following the release of the cheeky video, the Brooklyn Diocese was appalled and demoted the Monsignor who approved it.

This then sparked a probe into Monsignor Jamie Gigantiello who claimed the singer’s team ‘failed to accurately represent the video content’ and apologised for the ‘shameful representation which I whole-heartedly denounce.’

Monsignor Jamie Gigantiello was then relieved of his duties by Bishop Robert Brennan.

In a new twist, last week NBC New York reported that a federal investigation was launched into the business dealings between Monsignor Jamie Gigantiello and Mayor Adams’ former chief of staff, Frank Carone.

In a statement to the New York Post, Diocese officials commented: ‘It would be inappropriate to comment further on that review, which is still ongoing.

‘The Diocese is fully committed to cooperating with law enforcement in all investigations, including conduct at individual parishes or involving any priest.’

Politico reported: ‘Carone helped Gigantiello, a close friend for decades, invest in real estate. Investigators are probing those deals, according to three people familiar with the matter.’

It’s speculated that the Sabrina music video controversy is perhaps what put Gigantiello on the map for federal investigators and uncovered his friendship with Carone.

Carone no longer works for Mayor Eric Adams, and just days ago the Mayor pleaded not guilty to the five criminal charges he is facing – bribery, wire fraud, conspiracy, and two counts of soliciting campaign contributions from foreign nationals, which are punishable by up to 45 years in prison.

The singer’s fame has catapulted in recent months after she appeared as the opening artist for Taylor Swift during the US leg of The Eras Tour.

Sabrina’s songs Taste, Please Please Please, and Espresso from her Short ‘n’ Sweet album have also been huge chart toppers – earning her accolades and praise as the next big pop artist.

She also made waves at the VMAs as she performed a medley live on stage and kissed a blue alien mid-performance.
