Swifties are in shambles after a video of a man smashing an autographed Taylor Swift guitar has gone viral.
The man, who is unnamed, stirred up controversy after spending $4,000 on the guitar which was signed by the 14-time Grammy winner only to destroy it immediately after. In the video, which has made its rounds online on Sunday, September 29, a white-haired man can be seen walking up to grab the guitar, to which he starts smashing with a hammer, sending shards flying.
The man's laughter fills the room, seemingly pleased with the chaos he caused. At one point, he appeared like he might lift the guitar for a dramatic overhead smash, only to be interrupted by the host, taking the hammer from the excited individual.
Fans of Swift, 34, were left scratching their heads, trying to comprehend why someone would invest so much money in a cherished collectible just to obliterate it.
"Taylor Swift is worth $1 billion. This doesn't affect her. He just set $4000 on fire. He must be struggling in this economy," said one fan on X (formerly known as Twitter). Another seemingly agreed, noting, "It doesn't affect Taylor Swift and he just lost $4,000 🤡😂🤣🙄."
Others highlighted the man in the video, questioning his motives. "What a normal, well-adjusted human," one commenter quipped. Another user noted the wastefulness of the act, stating, "Why didn't he give some of that cash to his poor neighbors who can't afford eggs and cereal. These are not serious people." A third chimed in trying to stay positive, saying, "I hope the auction price went to a great cause!!!"
While the man's exact motives are not clear, speculation has arisen that the act may have political undertones, especially following Swift's endorsement of Kamala Harris for president earlier in September.
"Yeah this endorsement thing ain't working out too hot for Ms. @taylorswift13," said one, while plenty of other users also defended the man. "I want to buy this guy a beer 🍻," one said, while another replied, "He's my hero."
