WWE fans got a rare glimpse at Rey Mysterio unmasked during this week’s Monday Night Raw.

The 49-year-old Hall of Famer, who first joined the company in 2002 and is widely regarded as one of the best wrestlers of all time, faced off against New Day star Xavier Woods on last night’s episode.

The pair delivered some thrilling action for the fans, but the real drama came at the end of the bout when Woods pulled at Mysterio’s mask, only for it to slip right off.

While the Master of the 619 has unmasked on social media before – and even performed without his iconic covering in WCW – he has seldom been seen uncovered on WWE television.

Although it was a glimpse, it’s the most of Mysterio’s face fans have really seen since he first joined WWE over two decades ago, and his attempts to cover up cost him as Woods rolled him up for a cheap win.

In character, the former King of the Ring has claimed it was an accident – but regardless, fans have been left stunned by the shocking moment.

‘I gasped way too loud when Xavier Woods took Rey Mysterio’s mask off 😬 it really felt like a federal offense #MondayNightRAW,’ wrote fan @mecimarie on X.

‘I let out a real gasp at seeing unmasked Rey Mysterio, as if it’s never happened before 🤣,’ laughed @VaughnMJohnson, while @Mesa_Brown added: ‘Rey Mysterio getting fully unmasked in 2024 was not on my bingo card at all 😱😱😱’

Another viewer, @Raph089968, tweeted: ‘Loud gasp from the WWE Universe in Indiana – as Xavier Woods took off Rey Mysterio’s iconic mask. He looked conflicted after the win – but that heel turn is getting closer 😬.’

‘Rey Mysterio getting casually unmasked on a Monday night is crazy,’ said @whoisjjcarr, while @MikeOnTheRopes praised the creativity with the end to the match.

He added: ‘Rey Mysterio being unmasked mid match is not what I was expecting. Nice finish 👀 #WWERaw’

Meanwhile, Mysterio’s in-ring future has been the source of much speculation with his 50th birthday – and the previous retirement deadline he set for himself – coming in December.
