While the first series of Heartstopper focused on the flourishing relationship between Nick (Connor) and Charlie (Locke), the second series spread its storyline across other relationships in the friendship group, particularly Elle (Finney) and Tao (William Gao), and Darcy (Kizzy Edgell) and Tara (Corinna Brown). The main takeaways include Nick coming out as bisexual to his dad, Darcy and Tara admitting their love for one another, Tao and Elle finally entering a relationship, and a group trip to Paris, which is full of ups and downs.

What do we know about the plot in Heartstopper series three?

Speaking to the Radio Times recently, Oseman revealed that the show’s third series focuses on Charlie’s mental health: “We see him at his lowest - but we also see the journey of him healing.”

The author and screenwriter also revealed that the show will touch on sex for the first time, with the storyline “focused on the emotional side” of sex. “The characters are asking questions like, ‘Am I ready to have sex? How do I know if my partner is also ready? What if it’s really awkward and embarrassing because I don’t know what I’m doing?’ Hopefully, that will be relatable for a lot of young people.”

How many series will there be of Heartstopper?

The show is based on Oseman’s popular webcomic series, volumes of which have been released yearly since 2019. Five volumes have been released so far, the latest of which was in December. In June, Oseman revealed that the sixth and final volume is in the works. While there’s no news on whether series four has been green-lit by Netflix yet, the immense success and popularity of the show indicates that further series are likely.
