Grey's Anatomy cast members Kevin McKidd and Kim Raver have addressed the future of the long-running medical drama, as Season 22 remains unconfirmed.

The co-stars, who portray married surgeons Owen Hunt and Teddy Altman respectively, spoke out on whether they could see the show continuing as the 21st season airs in the U.S.

The pair agreed they thought there was "a lot more to come" from the fictional couple as well as the program, which was created by Shonda Rhimes and launched in 2005.

They also teased what fans can expect from the latest season, hinting at further heartbreak for the characters of Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight's "Spilling the ETea," they were asked how much longer did they see Grey's continuing and if they were making a pact that they couldn't leave without one another.

Laughing, McKidd said: "They've been through so much that I think there's a lot more to their story, personally."

Raver continued: "Yeah, I know, we were just talking about it—we're not going to tell any of you all."

McKidd said: "We were having meetings about where we think Teddy and Owen are headed. But I think the show's got another 21 years, for sure. Would you do it for 21 years?"

Raver replied: "Yes, absolutely. I love it. I feel really... again, it's like you know when you get to do what you love to do, and keep telling stories with amazing people, I mean, as an actor that is such a gift."

Discussing what is coming up, Ravel said: "It's a good season—the table reads we've been doing I think are fantastic. We've had to have a lot of..."

Finishing her sentence, McKidd quipped how they'd got through many tissues.
Raver added "I was like, can I say that?" as he confirmed there had been a lot of crying behind the scenes.

"But a lot of laughing also," the actress pointed out as McKidd said: "The show has never been better."

Newsweek has contacted representatives for Kevin McKidd, Kim Raver and ABC via email for comment.

Their interview comes after Rhimes released a statement to E! News in April confirming season 21, just weeks after the premiere of Grey's 20th offering.

It read: "The loyalty and love of Grey's Anatomy fans has propelled us into a historic 21st season and I could not be more grateful."

McKidd first joined Grey's back in 2008 as a military trauma doctor, before making his directorial debut in the series' seventh run.

Raver appeared as Altman a season later, as a cardiothoracic surgeon brought in by Hunt after they served in Iraq together.
