In what many are calling a ‘core memory’, The Killers paused their London gig to play the final moments of England’s game against the Netherlands.
Football fans were ecstatic last night as Ollie Watkins scored the winning goal just before the whistle, making us all believe it could be coming home.
Fans at the O2 Arena on Wednesday night were concerned about the Euros 2024 semi-final clash but Brandon Flowers and the band didn’t let them down.
The entire show was paused and the screen lit up with the big game, just in time for everyone to see England triumph and land a place in the finals.
Confetti burst from the stage and cheers rang out around the arena before The Killers launched into Mr Brightside, prompting even more celebration.
Brandon — plus bandmates Dave Keuning, Ronnie Vannucci Jr. and Mark Stoermer — were praised by gig-goers who declared it ‘peak British culture’.
‘Tonight we played for England,’ wrote The Killers after the London gig for their Rebel Diamonds tour, downplaying the epic scenes of sheer delight inside the music venue.
Video of the moment showed fans cheering for the football and then going absolutely bonkers when the first chords of Mr Brightside were struck.
On X, gig-goers were praising the moment and calling for the UK to ‘adopt’ the Las Vegas-based group.
‘The coolest thing that’s ever happened to the Brits tbh,’ wrote Jenn Mckay as user Next To The Aisle shared: ‘Define Euphoria.’
Emily Walmsley said: ‘If you ever get the chance to watch England advance to the final of the Euros then sign along to the UK’s national anthem in an arena of 15,000 people, I highly recommend it. Utter perfection from The Killers. 👌🏼’

‘Possibly the most electric moment of my life,’ shared Martin Kimber. ‘When the Killers livestream the Euros right before England win and they hit us with Mr Brightside.’
Mr. Brightside has become a huge hit in the UK, often played at parties and weddings with jokes and memes about its prevalence in British culture despite the band being American.
The song holds two Guinness World Record titles, including the longest stay on UK singles chart by a group at 416 weeks.
According to gig-goer Tim Shipman, frontman Brandon had joked about fans being on their phones and said: ‘Is it still 1-1? That’s tight. Maybe we can relieve your anxiety’.
This was around 10 minutes before the whistle, with The Killers playing Dustland Fairytale during Watkins’ goal then they switched to the football.

Meanwhile, in Manchester, the Kings of Leon also celebrated the two goal win with a rendition of Sweet Caroline to close their show.
While taking their bows at the Co-op Live arena, the American group shared the final score on the screens behind them.
Both bands’ drummers were spotted in Three Lions t-shirts during their concerts and Kings of Leon frontman Celeb Followill teased: ‘I guess it’s coming home’.
England will face off against Spain on Sunday in Berlin for the Euros crown with manager Gareth Southgate seeming optimistic about the match.
‘Well, we’ll have to get the ball off them first,’ he said in a motivational post-match chat before adding: ‘We have as good a chance as they do.’
