TV viewers horrified by ‘sickening’ sex scene between a son… and his mum

Warning: spoilers ahead for House of the Dragon season 2 episode 5.

TV viewers have been left disgusted by a ‘disturbing’ scene where a son has sex with his mother… with one person decrying it as ‘too far’.

House of the Dragon is no stranger to graphic scenes, just like its predecessor Game of Thrones.

However, it appears that some people who are fans of the fantasy series reckon a new wild encounter with Matt Smith’s character Daemon Targaryen in season 2 episode 5 might be the most extreme yet.

In the latest instalment of the HBO show, Daemon is continuing to experience hallucinations while staying in Harrenhal, a castle that has a reputation for being haunted.

In a new vision, Daemon is seen being intimate with a mystery woman (Emeline Lambert), who boasts the Targaryens’ signature silvery blonde hair.

While he’s performing oral sex on her, she mentions his brother Viserys (Paddy Considine), the late King, before then saying to Daemon: ‘If only you’d been born first, my favourite son.’

She also references the fact that he never had the chance to know her, given Viserys and Daemon’s mother Alyssa Targaryen died when the second son was only three years old.

In the world of Westeros, incest – especially within the Targaryen family – isn’t the rarest of things.

However, a sex scene between a mother and son, even if it was in a hallucination, has left viewers rightfully horrified out of their minds.

‘That Daemon scene was disturbing and disgusting. There’s a lot of incest in this show but this was sickening,’ one X user called @singingponey wrote.

‘Dream or not im not tryna to watch anyone f**k their mother 🤮,’ @NatRichonne remarked.

‘When I thought Daemon’s hallucinations couldn’t get any worse,’ @cybellefilms quipped.

One fan called @hurlayemi91 stated that in their opinion, the scene with Daemon and his mum was ‘highly unnecessary’.

‘Somebody needs to slap some sense into Daemon tf is he doing playing house at Harrenhal and that horrific illusion with his..mom?????’ @geumcine shared.

‘Daemon’s hallucinations are giving me nightmares at this point,’ @evilswan1 added.

Will House of the Dragon ever draw the line when it comes to displays of incest? At this point, who knows.
