Fans were shocked by the scene in The Jetty (Picture: BBC)

BBC’s latest drama starring Jenna Coleman has shocked fans with a scene that fans are calling ‘gross’ as a horse was pleasured by a character in the first episode.

The Jetty is the BBC’s latest crime drama to come to screens and attempt to fill the void left by Happy Valley.

The series focuses on Detective Ember Manning (Coleman’s character) as she is forced to reevaluate her life after an arson attack at a boat house sparks off a series of events that drudge up the past.

The series has been met with mixed reviews as some found the slow burn captivating while others were less gripped by the pace that flitted between the modern day and a few decades earlier.

After watching the first episode, some viewers took to social media to share their distaste when it came to one specific scene.

Partway through the episode, a character named Amy takes her new friend Caitlin to her home.

She explains that her family is on the brink of bankruptcy and they will soon be shooting their horse named Kingpin for the insurance money.

In a move that showed her sadistic sense of humour, Amy then leaned down to pleasure the horse with her hand for a few seconds before exiting the barn.

The scene was enough to ‘turn stomachs’ as viewers took to X to share their disgust.

‘That scene with the horse was just gross #TheJetty,’ said nickycafc.

‘#TheJetty bloody hell. Was there any need for that horse scene. Turned my stomach. I’m ready for turning off. No likeable characters,’ said xDiamond_Girlx.

‘#thejetty is weird, but I’m worried about that poor lonely horse, tied up in a dump and being sexually abused,’ Sparkysue commented.

mishybabez_ added: ‘That horse scene I have no words what just happened #TheJetty.’

The BBC has described The Jetty as ‘as much a coming-of-age story as a detective thriller’.

The series ‘asks big questions about sexual morality, identity and memory, in the places that Me Too has left behind’.

The first two episodes were released on Monday and Tuesday this week with the final third and fourth episodes to be released consecutively on Sunday and Monday night.
