Netflix has a history of providing TV that hooks viewers from all over the world. And Supacell is the perfect example, having racked up 25 million watches since it was released in June.

The new sci-fi series is set and filmed in London and follows a group of seemingly ordinary black people who find their lives upturned when they develop superpowers.

Created by Rapman (Andrew Onwubolu) – the brains behind the 2019 cinema hit Blue Story – Supacell stars former Doctor Who companion Tosin Cole, as well as The Responder’s Adelayo Adedayo.

Netflix fans are hooked on the series, with the show landing in the streamer’s top 10 chart mere days after its release on June 27.

It was watched 6.4 million times in its first three days and has now broken 25 million plays in just three weeks on the platform (amounting to a whopping 132 million hours of viewing time).

And if that hasn’t sold it to you, Supacell scored a perfect 100% on Rotten Tomatoes too.

Michael Idato, writing for The Sydney Morning Herald, praised the ‘stunning cinematography’ and ‘richly textured direction’, while Ben Gibbons for Screen Rant wrote: ‘Supacell is a spectacular new superhero series that delivers a new original story in a way that stands out, even in an overly saturated genre.’

It’s no surprise, then, that fans are desperate for a season two.

And though it’s yet to be confirmed, star Tosin Cole has revealed the cast and crew are hoping for a second installment too.

He told Metro.co.uk: ‘We’re talking it into existence. We’ve done all the set-up so we can just dive straight in.’

Meanwhile, his co-star Calvin Demba teased: ‘The way it leaves off, there’s definitely more to these stories.’

And with season one’s enormous viewing figures, there’s no reason to doubt that Supacell season two would prove to be a success.

It’s been watched so many times, in fact, that it knocked the hugely successful period drama Bridgerton from the top spot of Netflix’s most-watched list.

The third season of everyone’s favourite steamy drama now sits below two newer entries: documentary The Man with 1000 Kids, which uncovers the story of a Dutch sperm donor who has fathered more than 500 children, and the third series of Vikings: Valhalla, which sees Norse mythology-inspired characters fight for territory and legacy.

The two shows achieved 5.4 million views each between July 8-14, but will they catch up to Supacell in next week’s rankings?
