WWE superstar Ludwig Kaiser has revealed he wrestled for almost 10 minutes with a broken rib which meant he ‘couldn’t breathe’.

The German wrestler – who recently stepped out as a solo star after rising up the ranks with GUNTHER – is hoping to get cleared in time for Bash In Berlin on August 31, but he’s currently on the injury shelf after an accident in the ring with Bron Breakker.

He exclusively told Metro.co.uk: ‘It was one of the rougher weekends, it was a dark [match] on Friday on SmackDown, the next two days I did live matches and then the Raw match.

‘I was a little banged up before, I had a little bit of a problem with my rib before. And yeah, very, very early in the match – actually, I think like the first minute or the second, I landed, and I felt right away that my room was broken.

‘And [I] couldn’t breathe anymore really, couldn’t really move anymore. And yeah, that was the situation.’

The 34-year-old star is disappointed to be out of the ring, but he’s proud of finishing the match, which led to him being written off screen with Breakker taking the credit.

‘With everything in life, if you’ve been put in a bad situation, you make the best out of it. And that’s what we did,’ he said. ‘We managed it all well, it was all fine, but obviously I wanna be there, I want to wrestle and perform.’

It’s a tough recovery for Kaiser, who explained that the nature of the injury means he hasn’t been able to really work out properly over the past couple of weeks.

‘It’s really just an annoying injury, but I’m blessed when it comes to genetics and recovery,’ he teased. ‘I’m recovering great, and I’ll be back in no time. But obviously the person that I am, I want to be there every week.’

Kaiser’s real life girlfriend is SmackDown star Tiffany Stratton, and the former gymnast has been a rock for him as he’s been forced to take time away from the ring.

‘She’s there herself so there’s a lot of more, I think, understanding for certain situations, or for me coming home being beat up or not really want to want to go out or whatever,’ he admitted.

‘Obviously, with us being on two different shows, that makes it a little harder as well, since we basically only see each other for a full day on a Wednesday.’

But he added: ‘At the end of the day, we still have a very, very good situation, very good life. We can’t complain, we’re very blessed.’

On screen, Kaiser recently stepped out on his own after spending his entire main roster run tied to GUNTHER in Imperium, and he’s looking forward to getting a chance to show what he can do as a solo star.

‘I feel very comfortable in what I’m doing right now,’ he said of this recent direction.

‘Whenever I get a lot of time where I can be vocal, and I can be very much myself and very much say what I would like to say in the way I would like to say it, there’s so much freedom that I’m getting.

‘And I’m very, very happy about that position right now, everything has gone exactly in the right direction.’

All roads in WWE are pointing to SummerSlam where GUNTHER will challenge Damian Priest for the World Heavyweight Championship, but Kaiser is eyeing up Bash In Berlin at the end of August.

It will mark the company’s first ever premium live event in the country, and WWE will take over the Mercedes-Benz Arena with SmackDown airing live from the same venue on August 30.

‘This really feels like the summer of Germany. We’re coming right off the Euros, which was totally amazing,’ he said.

‘Everybody came together, everybody had great fun with each other, exactly how it’s supposed to be. That sets the tone perfectly for the rest of August in Berlin.’
