Piers Morgan makes plea for Strictly 2024 to combat the ‘snowflake virus’

Piers Morgan has declared he is willing to sign up for Strictly Come Dancing to ‘save the day’.

The 59-year-old broadcaster has appeared on several reality shows in the past, judging Britain’s Got Talent, competing on The Celebrity Apprentice and The Celebrity Chase.

However, he’s now said he wants to appear on the long-running BBC dancing series currently facing calls to be cut ahead of its 20th year on screen.

The beloved show has been rocked by scandal in recent weeks following allegations levelled against several professional dancers, and concerns raised about the treatment of contestants including Amanda Abbington and Zara McDermott.

Sherlock actress Amanda, who quit Strictly last year after five weeks, has described her former dance partner Giovanni Pernice’s behaviour as ‘unnecessary, abusive, cruel and mean’, however he has denied the claims and said he ‘looks forward’ to clearing his name.

Meanwhile Graziano Di Prima shockingly quit the programme earlier this month over allegations he ‘kicked and hit’ Love Island star Zara.

Since then, the national broadcaster has introduced new measures to support celebrities’ welfare on the show, including chaperones.

Past contestants on the show have since spoken about their experiences, while resurfaced interviews from previous years have made it clear many struggled.

Despite this all, Piers is willing to take to the dancefloor for the upcoming season, due to air later this year.

Posting a message on social media, Piers said he wanted to help the show stay on screens.

‘Memo to Strictly Come Dancing execs: given the snowflake virus is now threatening your sparkly show’s existence, I’m prepared to save the day by being a contestant but only on one condition: that whoever trains me is so tough, brutal and uncompromising that I win,’ he posted on X.

Despite this, Piers hasn’t exactly been too glowing of the show in the past and last year said it was ‘unwatchable’.

‘Every time I try, I give up after 3 minutes. Just weapons grade Gorgonzola cheese,’ he added.

Around the same time, he claimed he’d turned down an offer to appear on the 2022 season but wasn’t offered ‘enough money’.

‘If you want me to humiliate myself on a dance floor, I was offered $150,000 by Dancing with The Stars in America when I was doing America’s Got Talent,’ he told The Sun.

However, he did say he’d consider it for ‘$1.2 million’ (£939,000).
