Going through family history often provides revelations, but a Wisconsin woman has gone viral on TikTok after unearthing an unexpected connection with her fourth great-grandma.

Lindsay Bullis had never known a lot about her father's side of the family, leading her to search through her ancestry for answers. Delving deeper into her family history, she told Newsweek that she "couldn't believe [her] eyes" when she came across a photograph of her fourth great-grandma, Mary Beckwith.

The grainy picture revealed a striking resemblance between Bullis, 28, and Beckwith, who lived from 1805 to 1873. Before seeing the photograph, Bullis, a full-time artist from Milwaukee, wasn't even aware of who her great-grandma was, but she's been heartened by the bond she now has with her ancestor.

"I went looking through ancestry because I didn't know much about my paternal side other than my grandparents," Bullis told Newsweek via TikTok.

"I went looking into that side of my family history and found the picture of my fourth great-grandmother. I was so shocked when I saw her picture, and it made me feel a special connection to her. My friends and family thought the resemblance was uncanny too."

So far, Bullis hasn't found any resemblances with other relatives in her family history, but after the surprise of this one, she won't rule it out.

Bullis couldn't resist sharing her incredible discovery on TikTok (@whimsicalartbylindsay) as she posted a video of her face alongside Beckwith's photograph. She joked that her fourth great-grandma is her "long lost twin from centuries ago," and the clip instantly went viral online.

In just a matter of days, the video has gained over 508,000 views and more than 44,300 likes on TikTok. Social media users have been left marveling at the striking similarities between their faces, despite living centuries apart.

"The reaction since sharing it online has been really amazing, and I'm glad other people are fascinated by it. Seeing so many people react to my grandmother and I is very cool," Bullis continued.

"Since the video of my grandmother went viral, I've gotten a lot more followers and eyes on my artwork. I like to think she's helping me on my art journey in some way."

The viral TikTok clip has already generated over 1,800 comments so far, as internet users hailed the likeness that they share. One comment reads: "That's amazing. The resemblance is undeniable."

Another TikTok user wrote: "Incredible lineage. You have her exact features. So cool."

"Straight up twins," joked another person.

While another commenter added: "Welcome back sis."
