Fancy getting onto the property market for less than £200,000? An opportunity to buy a house in a historic English town has arisen – but you’ll be inheriting a rather bizarre toilet situation.

The one-bedroom house in Alcester, Warwickshire – just outside Stratford-upon-Avon, the birthplace of William Shakespeare – is up for £175,000.

However, one of the property’s unique quirks is that it has a loo beneath a set of second-floor stairs, nestled between the landing and the main bedroom.

No, not behind a closed door – out in the open, without any walls to conceal it. How’s that for privacy?

While you can close the door to one level, there appears to be another room mere steps away – so you might want to consider making sure no one is upstairs before you go about your business. Chic, hey?

It’s seemingly quite a tight space, too, so you might want to watch your head to avoid bumping it on the stairs.

At present, the current owners have added all the mod cons you’d expect inside an enclosed toilet, including a mirror, bathroom bin, sink, and, oddly enough, even a wine rack. Who said you couldn’t enjoy a bottle or two while on the loo?

If you’re put off by the thought of being that exposed while doing your business, there’s a regular bathroom too – and there’s even the added luxury of a closed door.

Besides the strange toilet scenario, the house looks like any other, with a sitting room, dining room, and kitchen set across the ground floor and garden access outside.

While the floorplan references two bedrooms, the Rightmove listing notes that the loft conversion – advertised as bedroom one – is not being sold as a bedroom, which is something to take into consideration when hatching up any grand plans for the space.

Naturally, social media commentators had questions about the listing.

‘Good use of that wasted space. Is that a wine rack beside the toilet…’ @Spottswoodeforgod penned in the SpottedonRightmove Reddit thread.

@SpookyMorden labelled it a ‘convenient and comfortable place to unburden your bowels while drowning your sorrows,’ while @DressSmooth1957 joked: ‘Would you like some concussion added to your toilet visit, sir?’

However, there was some genuine interest in the property, as @firekeeper23 described it as a ‘really lovely lil house and garden.’

Elsewhere, grand plans were floated for potential renovations as @LoveforIndie suggested: ‘all that needs doing is to swap the bathroom and utility room and turn the stairs around. Job’s a good’un.’

This isn’t the first time a house with a peculiarly placed toilet has hit the market. In August, a home with a loo inside the bedroom went up for sale up in Leeds to the tune of £360,000.

Want to stake your claim for this one? The property is set to be sold at auction by R A Bennett & Partners, but you’ll need to watch out for the fees as the transaction will need to be completed in just 56 days.

There’s also a reservation agreement to be signed, as well as a non-refundable reservation fee of 4.5%.
