Sainsbury’s recently came under fire from shoppers after they discovered the retailer had made a rather ‘sneaky’ change to its popular lunchtime meal deal.

The price of the deal changed a few weeks ago at the supermarket, rising from £3.50 to £3.75 — which is a 7% increase.

Some claimed this change left them wanting to ‘cry’, but it seems all has since been forgiven, as people have just discovered you can get a ‘game-changing’ product as part of the deal, and it’s the perfect choice for summer.

As well as your sandwich and drink, you can now nab an ice cream or ice lolly as a ‘snack’ as part of the £3.75 price, with options including Magnums, Calippos, Feasts, Twisters Cadbury Flake cones, Oreo ice cream sandwiches, and Solero.

The particular ice creams available will depend on stock and the store you’re shopping in.

PSA: You can get ice cream as your ‘snack’ in the Sainsburys meal deal. Magnums, twisters, cornettos, the lot. I just had a magnum as a mid afternoon snack and life has never been better.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Evie Aspinall shared the news, writing: ‘PSA: You can get ice cream as your snack in the Sainsbury’s meal deal.

‘I just had a Magnum as a mid-afternoon snack and life has never been better.’

More than 8,000 people liked her tweet, with dozens commenting to share their thoughts on the discovery. Martin McCabe replied: ‘This changes everything,’ as @andjamwar proclaimed: ‘WWHHAAAAAAT!?’

@Jack_PM_ thought the change was ‘revolutionary’, while Liam McKinnon said: ‘That has blown my mind. However eat your sandwich/wrap/salad first and risk the ice cream melting? Or be forced into a weird sweet first/savoury after situation. A Nectar dilemma.’

@etsKi_ proclaimed: ‘Ok this is a f***ing game-changer’, and @hanhan44 added: ‘That’s the sort of life tip that could truly turn my day/week around!! Thanks.’

Over on TikTok shoppers were equally as thrilled by the new addition, as @erinwells_nz shared a look at it in a video.

‘If you knew this and you didn’t tell me then why,’ she captioned her post.

@beksinthecity replied: ‘This is huge news!’ and Aime Louise Gray shared: ‘Now that’s getting your money’s worth.’

But if you’re not a Sainsbury’s shopper, and prefer to get your meal deal from Tesco, it turns out you can also get yourself an ice cream as a snack there too.

Tesco’s meal deal is a littler pricier though, unless you’re a Clubcard member. It’s £3.90 without a membership, or £3.40 with one.

This comes after Brits discovered that a ‘scandalous’ change had been made to a beloved ice lolly.

The Fab lolly is an iconic and colourful summertime treat, split into  three parts, a strawberry, vanilla, and chocolate section on top, covered in rainbow sprinkles. Each part is supposed to be the same size, with the packaging showing what it’s meant to look like.

But lately fans of the Fab have noticed something rather ‘scandalous’ going on with the product, and they aren’t best pleased.

Shoppers have taken to social media to share their outrage over one of the sections supposedly getting smaller — and it’s undoubtedly the best one.

In a post on Reddit, one unhappy Brit wrote: ‘The chocolate on top of a Fab lolly has shrunk! Scandalous’

Another responded to say they had noticed this also, claiming ‘the bit at the top was centimetres smaller than it should have been.’

They added: ‘I think they’re the latest classic to fall victim to shrinkflation. It’s so disappointing when you devour the top bit in five seconds.’

Those who feel personally victimised by this issue will be pleased to hear that action is being taken, and an investigation has been launched.

Nestlé’s ice cream products and lollies are all manufactured by Froneri in the UK, who told Metro.co.uk: ‘At Froneri we take quality very seriously and aim to delight customers with our products, we are sorry to learn that someone has not received a product that meets our standards.

‘We haven’t made any changes to the size of Fab or any of its three sections. A Fab lolly should have three equally sized sections; strawberry at the bottom, vanilla milk ice in the middle and chocolate with sprinkles at the top.

‘We are investigating this with our technical team, in order to address it from occurring going forwards.’
