Millions of voters across London are going to the polls to elect the new Government. The Standard looks at key battleground and other seats in the capital, and has published an interactive map. Here we turn the spotlight on:

WEST HAM AND BECKTON

Estimated declaration time 5.30am

Candidates for main parties (in alphabetical order):

James Edward Asser - Labour Party

Emily Bigland - Liberal Democrats

Rob Callender - Green Party

Georgie David - Reform UK

Holly Alice Ramsey - Conservatives

Summary:

The boundary review took into account the significant growth of the population in Newham with the creation of a third seat covering this area.

West Ham and Beckton includes dockside districts near the Thames which have been transformed by regeneration compared to 40 years ago, as well as low rise, high density communities of West Ham and Plaistow.

Lyn Brown, who represented West Ham since 2005, won in 2019 with a huge majority of 32,388.

She is one of a number of senior Labour figures who have stood down from Parliament.

Area: This constituency includes the Newham wards of Beckton, Canning Town North, Canning Town South, Custom House, Plaistow North, Plaistow South, Royal Docks and West Ham.

Boundary changes impact (Thrasher and Rallings analysis): Boundary changes have not changed the political make-up of this constituency, compared to West Ham.

YouGov MRP poll prediction: Labour

Evening Standard view: It’s so Red here that whichever way the area is carved up it would almost certain return a Labour MP.
