Robert F Kennedy Jr has revealed he offered to pull out of the presidential race to back Kamala Harris if she offered him a cabinet position.

The 70-year-old conspiracy theorist has historic roots in the Democratic party but is on the ballot in November’s vote as an independent to challenge Ms Harris and Donald Trump.

Mr Kennedy has twice previously run for the top office in the hopes of emulating his uncle John, the assassinated 35th President of the United States.

And while in the past he has barely featured in the final results, polls had at some points put him into the double digits this time around with widespread frustration with Joe Biden.

However, his support has dropped off following Mr Biden dropping out of the race and being replaced on the ticket by his vice president Ms Harris.

Stefanie Spear, a spokesman for the Kennedy campaign, told CNN that he had tried to reach out and form an alliance to take on Mr Trump.

“[He] is willing to meet with leaders of both parties to discuss the possibility of a unity government,” she said.

The Democratic Party has not commented but seems unlikely to want to form a pact with Mr Kennedy - and his background might tell you why.
