Passengers were left shocked after fuel poured out of a Boeing 737 passenger plane just as it was about to take off in Indonesia.

More than a hundred people on board the Boeing 737-800 operated by Garuda Indonesia lived through every flight passenger’s worst nightmare as fuel began gushing out of the plane’s wing.

Fuel was seen pouring out of the wing onto the tarmac just before the plane taxied off at Jakarta Sukarno Hatta International Airport on Saturday.

Luckily ground staff noticed the leak and alerted the pilot of the 11-year-old plane before it moved any further.

The plane returned to the gate with 135 passengers on board for them to disembark the flight GA174 which was grounded.

Another plane rolled in two hours later to take the passengers to their destination on the Pekanburu-Sumatra Island.

Indonesian singer and songwriter Kunto Aji was on board the plane and he filmed the leak, Aviation Direct reports.

He said in a post on X: ‘My life was just saved, thank God I still have time, it was discovered, turned around but didn’t fly. This is so scary.’

Now the airline’s boss has spoken out after the incident.

Garuda International’s president director Irfan Setiaputra confirmed that an investigation into the incident has been launched.

The airline said it was committed to passenger safety, and the circumstances would be ‘thoroughly investigated.’
