The 2024 Paris Olympic Games are fast approaching, with just over a week to go.

Preparations for the opening ceremony and 329 medal events across 32 sports are well underway in the French capital. It last held the Games exactly 100 years ago, the second of three times it has hosted the sporting extravaganza after 1900.

Tony Estanguet, president of the Paris Olympics, said: “We really wish to make Paris 2024 the first ‘Games Wide Open’, and we are fully dedicated to bringing this concept to life.”

When are the 2024 Paris Olympics?

Olympic events will commence on Wednesday, July 24. Football, rugby, handball, and archery tournaments will start then before the opening ceremony on Friday, July 26.

The Games will end on Sunday, August 11. The full competition schedule can be found here.

Paris will then host the Paralympic Games from Wednesday, August 28 to Sunday, September 8.

When is the opening ceremony?

The Olympic Games opening ceremony will take place on Friday, July 26, at 6.30pm. It will be held in the heart of the city along its main artery, the Seine, with boats for each national delegation.

These boats will be kitted out with cameras so that viewers can have a good view of the athletes up close.

The parade will come to an end in front of the Trocadéro, where the remaining elements of Olympic protocol and final shows will take place.

How to watch the 2024 Olympic Games

Tickets are on sale now, and the cost can differ significantly from between roughly €24 (£21) and €2,400 (£2,100).

Most websites say they are mostly already sold out for swimming and beach volleyball events.

For those in the UK and without tickets, the BBC is the official Olympic television broadcaster here. The BBC will broadcast the action on BBC Sport and BBC iPlayer. Eurosport may also broadcast some of the Games in the UK – online and on TV.

Alternatively, anyone travelling abroad can watch the games via virtual private networks (VPNs).
