Darren Hayes, the former lead singer of Savage Garden, is turning heads with his incredible fitness transformation.

At 52, Hayes recently showcased his toned physique on Instagram, leaving fans in awe of his dedication.

The Australian singer, best known for Savage Garden’s timeless hit Truly Madly Deeply, shared insights into his fitness journey with his nearly 100,000 Instagram followers.

In the candid post, Hayes compared two photos of himself: one taken after a year of intense workouts and another from two years ago, just after returning from a tour.

He captioned the post: ‘I’m 52. Pic on the left is after about a year of boxing, Basecamp, and Barry’s Bootcamp. Pic on right was just after I came back from tour 2 years ago. Exercise is HARD as you get older, but it keeps me sane.’

Hayes’ fitness regime includes boxing, Basecamp workouts, and sessions at Barry’s Bootcamp, all of which have contributed to his impressive transformation.

Hayes rose to stardom with the formation of Savage Garden in 1993 alongside multi-instrumentalist Daniel Jones. The duo quickly gained international acclaim with their debut self-titled album, released in 1997.

The album featured chart-topping singles such as Truly Madly Deeply, To the Moon and Back, and I Want You, establishing Savage Garden as a global pop sensation.

Truly Madly Deeply in particular became an anthem of the late 90s, reaching the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100 and staying there for two weeks.

After another successful album, the duo decided to part ways in 2001, with both Hayes and Jones pursuing different paths.

Hayes then embarked on a solo career, releasing his debut solo album Spin in 2002. Over the years, Hayes continued to release solo music, experimenting with various genres and styles.

He was previously married to British director and screenwriter Richard Cullen.

The couple, who married in 2013, announced their separation last year, and Hayes filed for divorce in September 2023.

He admitted that he ‘felt the need to be honest to those who have always cared for my inner world about what’s been going on in my private life these past two years’.

‘After 17 years of marriage to the best person I ever met, Richard and I have chosen to accept that our union has greatly and beautifully come to rest,’ Darren, who started dating Richard almost 20 years ago, wrote in his post.

‘In honour of this realisation, we separated earlier this year and have been supporting each other emotionally throughout this massive changed in our lives.’

Addressing any speculation as to the reasons behind their separation head-on, he added: ‘Because people will ask, let me answer the ugly questions to get them out of the way forever – no, there’s no scandal to report, no infidelity, guilty or third party. It’s just life. We adore each other and always will.

‘We view our marriage as our greatest collaboration. Nobody can ever take away what we achieved together. We are still best friends. We always will be.’

The Australian musician then joked: ‘Besides, we have a very cute and needy labradoodle to take care of, and the business of joy to attend to.’

‘Thank you for always supporting our union – and for being so gentle with this delicate thing we made. Love Darren (and Richard),’ he signed off the post, with a nod to his 2009 album This Delicate Thing We’ve Made.

Despite this personal turmoil, Hayes has clearly been taking self-care very seriously.
