An ITV News star has quit after over two decades on screens (Picture: ITV)

ITV News presenter Sascha Williams has quit the channel after 21 years.

The 44-year-old star is leaving her broadcasting roles behind after a career she described as ‘one heck of a ride’.

Making the emotional announcement, Sascha joked about finally being able to geet some sleep.

Taking to both X and Instagram, she penned: ‘After 21 years (and by the look of it, about as many hairstyles) it’s time to bid farewell to ITV.

‘It’s been one heck of a ride, working some of the absolute best in the business.

‘Will miss them lots (Though probably not the 4am alarm).’

She accompanied her words with a collage of herself on screen throughout the years, which included her working on location and throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.

Following Sascha’s social media post, she was inundated with supportive messages wishing her luck for the future.

Her former ITV News colleague Jonathan Wills replied: ‘What a star! Such a pleasure to share the @itvanglia sofa with you Sascha… enjoy the deserved break from the alarm… and huge best wishes coming to you from the islands! X’

News anchor Robyn Dwyer wrote: ‘Wishing you all the best with whatever comes next (and hopefully some sleep!) x’

Matt Brindley, the Managing Editor of ITV News, wrote: ‘Best of luck @Sascha_Williams – total pro and great colleague x’

Viewers also expressed their sadness over her departure, telling Sascha that mornings ‘won’t be the same’ without her.

Others said they will miss her ‘6:25am bulletins’ and her ‘cheery, smiling face’.

Sascha, from Chelmsford, Essex, became a permanent member of staff at ITV News in 2013, where she has remained for the past decade.

However, she began her career at ITV Anglia, where she worked as a production journalist from June 2003 until January 2006.

After leaving, she secured a reporting and presenting role, which she kept for three years before making the leap to freelancing.
