Tammie Holland has died of colon cancer aged 53.

The Emmy-nominated radio star, podcast host, and DJ passed away on Saturday, after being diagnosed with cancer in the summer of 2021.

The St.Louis native was part of the trailblazing first all-black female radio show, The Real Breakfast Crew on FOXY 106.9 FM.

She also hosted a popular podcast entitled This Week with Tammie Holland.

The keen fundraiser was open about her health battle while presenting her shows, and was on-air just weeks before her passing. Holland told listeners she would be receiving care at a hospice after her stage four cancer spread to her lungs and her brain.

Speaking about continuing to work in an interview with The St. Louis American after her diagnosis, Holland said: ‘Very early on, I stopped saying, “Why me?”

‘It’s like, “Why not me?” My cancer has caused me to live life with more intention – to live life on purpose.’

Holland was a social justice advocate and continued to speak out about issues impacting the community including police brutality until her death.

On Monday, a two-hour tribute was aired on Foxy where listeners could ring in to share their own memories of Holland.

Reflecting on the special segment, Foxy 106.9 FM’s Tonee Roper said: ‘Just seeing these last few days and Tammie on this journey these last few years, I just know she’ll be remembered as a beautiful spirit that touched so many.

‘And her charity work on air, sharing her journey, inspiring all through hard times. We will all remember that.’

‘She, obviously, was dealing with cancer herself, and at the same time, she was involved in fundraisers, she was helping other people who was dealing with things like cancer themselves.’

He continued: ‘I’m like, “Wow, that’s a strong lady right there.” Tammie is going to be remembered for not only being funny, but she was also there for the community even when she was going through her cancer treatment.’
