Married at First Sight has suffered a massive debacle after pairing up a couple who used to date.

The latest season of the Australian version of the dating series is currently filming, however one of the couples discovered they already knew each other when walking down the aisle.

Video and photos captured during the ceremony show how things took an awkward turn.

Business owner Jeff Gobbels and fitness influencer Rhi Disljenkovic, who are both based in Melbourne, were left shocked after being unexpectedly reunited last week.

In the video, shared by the Daily Mail, the groom appeared surprised after turning around and realising he recognised the bride, saying: ‘Hey Rhi.’

Their family and friends were then seen laughing after being told they already knew each other.

The couple still went through with the marriage, later walking off hand-in-hand after exchanging their vows.

Rhi was later seen explaining their connection to a producer off-camera.

The pair are reported to have dated around this time last year after being introduced by Australian Survivor star and football presenter Abbey Holmes.

Sources have since told the publication that the pair ‘dated for several months’ before things fizzled out.

‘This was definitely not part of the plan,’ an insider insisted.

‘Producers were as surprised as anyone when Jeff and Rhi recognised each other. But they’re hopeful that this unexpected twist could actually work in their favour.

‘Sometimes, a past connection can be a strong foundation to build on, and the experts believe they can help Jeff and Rhi reignite their relationship.’

Previous social media posts have reportedly shown Jeff liking a string of Rhi’s selfies, with the pair still following each other on Instagram before their reality TV wedding.

Despite not pursuing a relationship last year, they ‘kept in touch’ and still attend classes at the same gym.

Rhi is currently employed as an IT account manager at Seisma Group, while Jeff has appeared on a string of other shows.

He made his debut on long-running Aussie soap opera Neighbours in 2017 as police officer Kurt Bridges and went on to appear in three episodes of the show.

He’s also had minor roles in the mini-series The Warriors, the 2018 film Undertow and 2019 Chinese drama The Whistleblower.

Two other leaked cast members for this season of MAFS have also appeared on dating series before too.

The Bachelor star Sierah Swepstone and fitness coach Paul Antoine, who previously appeared on The Real Love Boat, will also walk down the aisle for this series.
